  Massachusetts Enacts Direct Billing Law ASCP congrat ula - tes the Massachusetts Society of Pathology and College of American Pathologists for their work in securing direct billing for anatomic pathology services in Massachusetts. Legislation was signed into law on July 24th by Governor Mitt Romney, requiring that all anatomic pathology services be billed by the physician or clinical laboratory performing the testing. The legislation helps reduce opportunities for unethical fee splitting and markups. HB 4812 goes into effect 90 days from the date the bill was signed into law.
